Bytown Catering enlisted the help of Kathy Smart, a registered nutritionist, to assist with the development and testing of specialized menu items for customers with allergies and specific dietary needs.
Kathy Smart, RNC, RSNA, HTC, PTS
With over 14 years in the health and fitness industries Kathy Smart is Ottawa’s expert on healthy living. Kathy is a Registered Nutritional Consultant with the Canadian Examining Board of Health Care Practitioners, a Registered Sports Nutrition Advisor, and a Holistic Teaching Chef with the Holistic Cooking Academy of Canada and a Registered Personal Fitness Trainer with the Canadian Association of Fitness Professionals. Kathy is currently studying towards her certification in Plant Nutrition from eCornell University.
As a nutrition and fitness consultant, Kathy provides services to a variety of clients including Designed Food Systems Inc. where she assists with menu development, nutritional analysis and recipe testing for retail sales. She also provides consulting to clients through the City of Ottawa teaching nutrition workshops, designing personalized nutrition programs and designing fitness classes for clients. In addition, she teaches cooking and nutrition for the Ottawa Carleton District School Board, the Holistic Cooking Academy of Canada, and other commercial and private clients.
Kathy is a TV and radio personality where she teaches, motivates and entertains people with healthy recipes and healthy eating tips, and an author of 3 Smart Kitchen Cookbooks that focus on healthy eating for people with gluten, wheat, dairy and vegetarian and vegan dietary needs.
Kathy excels at menu specialization, recipe development and modification including gluten-free, wheat- free, dairy-free and vegetarian options. She has designed hundreds of personalized programs for clients with diabetes, arthritis, osteoporosis, heart disease and food allergies.
Kathy takes great care in assisting others to adjust to a gluten free lifestyle as she is a celiac herself and understands firsthand the adjustments and modifications necessary to lead a healthy and happy life!
